John Peel Day: foi ontem

Até fica mal, aqui para o tasco, não ter ontem assinalado devidamente a passagem do John Peel Day, a data em que a Radio One celebra o aniversário da última transmissão do programa do falecido apresentador. Desta vez, uma das noites do Electric Proms, um ciclo de concertos realizado pela BBC no Electric Ballroom, foi dedicada a Peel e contou com a presença em palco de Squarepusher, The Raconteurs e The Horrors. E, à semelhança do ano passado, houve vários concertos (ainda não se sabe se tantos como no ano passado -- meio milhar) a ocorrerem por todo o Reino Unido e não só, em tributo a Peel.

Entretanto, no início desta semana, saiu uma compilação dedicada a Peel: "John Peel - Right Time, Wrong Speed: 1977-1987" (a capa, aqui ao lado, é de Peter Blake, o homem que fez a capa do "Sgt. Pepper..."). O alinhamento é composto por temas favoritos de Peel:
